Eco-friendly Reducing Agent for Sulfur Dye Dyeings

The production process of sulfur dyes is simple, lower cost and excellent fastness. However, due to its many shortcomings and problems in actual production and application, it still cannot be widely used in various fabrics.

 One major drawback of sulfur dyeing is water pollution and air pollution.Sulfur dyes are insoluble in water and cannot be directly applied to fibers. During dyeing, some deoxidizers as alkali sulfide and sodium hydrosulfide have to be added.Thus the waste water of dyeing is sulfur - containing,which is hardly treated thoroughly.If such waste water discharged directly, it will release hydrogen sulfide, which is harmful to organisms, corrodes the sewage system, releases odor, and harms people's health (the dye itself is not harmful to the user's health and is considered as  non-toxic dyes)。

In order to solve the wastewater problem,the factories have to spend much extra money on it,thus will increase the production cost.

Toxic hydrogen sulfide gas is easily produced during the dyeing process.When it reaches a certain level in the air,it can cause dizziness, palpitations, nausea, etc., which has a certain danger to the worker.Also there is a certain number of sulfide  residue in the dyed fabrics or yarns ,if the quantity is over standard,the fabrics have strong smell and also harm the human’s health.Meanwhile the fibers are easily  become embrittled after sulfate radicals are generated due to oxidation of the air during the storage of finished products.

 As people's awareness of environmental protection gradually increased,an Eco-friendly reducing agent for sulfur dyeing is needed.
